What We Do In Workshops
Baby
Talk Sign Language workshops are based on the Signing Smart™ infant
sign language curriculum developed by Michelle Anthony, M.A., Ph.D., and
Reyna Lindert, Ph.D., two young mothers and child-development experts
who studied language development and literacy and are certified in American
Sign Language.
Baby Talk Sign Language follows the Signing Smart™ model and teaches parents and caregivers to use signs while speaking to hearing infants and toddlers.
When parents or caregivers join a Baby Talk Workshop, they learn strategies and techniques to use American Sign Language (ASL) signs while interacting in enriching ways with infants and toddlers.
In our workshop, parents and caregivers learn Signing Smart™ Adaptation Strategies to allow children to easily see the signs while they are playing and exploring their world. They learn the developmental basis of signs and how to recognize their child’s versions of signs. They also learn how to sign when children are most primed to learn.
The workshops are open to parents and/or caregivers only and we ask that
alternate care arrangements be made for children during the 2 hour session.
